What is the Global Game Jam?
The Global Game Jam is a worldwide event in which people gather at over 100 locations during the same weekend to meet and create games. This year’s Game Jam has locations in over 37 countries. The Jam is not a competition, per se, just a way to meet great people and work on something cool. For more information about the Global Game Jam and its rules, go to the official site: www.globalgamejam.org.
What about TCNJ?
The College of New Jersey is our gracious host for the evening, and therefore we ask that all guests are respectful of the campus and facilities while here. Please respect rules laid out at the site. This includes obvious things like not bringing alcohol or drugs to the site, and also things like parking in the appropriate lots and not making a mess. Thank you!
If you’d like to know more about TCNJ, visit www.tcnj.edu).
What should I bring on Friday?
Anything you need for the weekend! A sleeping bag is probably a good idea, as are snacks, a toothbrush, etc. Space will be provided for people to throw their stuff down and take breaks to sleep. There is a lot of convenience stores, delivery places, grocery stores, and restaurants within a few minutes of TCNJ’s campus, and during the day, the dining hall downstairs serves food and takes cash.
You should also bring anything you need to make a game! That means notebooks, pens, dice, laptops, software, power strips, musical instruments, fingerpaint, cameras, and hologram-emitting projectors that you have and want to make use of. Tables, chairs, and wireless internet will be provided. You can work on any type of game - a video game that you play on the computer or on a console, a board game or card game, etc. So bring enough to let your creativity run wild!
What the heck is a Game Jam?
It’s a lot of fun! At the TCNJ Game Jam, people of all ages, skill levels, and walks of life will come together and dedicate the weekend to making games. People are always surprised at the great results they get in such a short period of time, and the games are usually very creative and fun. The TCNJ Game Jam is for anyone who’s interested in making a game, even if they never have before, and teams are encouraged to mix and mingle, help each other out, and learn from the experience. So if you’re a professional programmer, or if you just really love playing Checkers, you’ll fit right in and should have a great time!
